AMBERIF 201026.02.2010
It is for the 17th time that we will have the honour of welcoming you at the Amberif International Fair of Amber, Jewellery and Gemstones. From March 10 to 13, the exhibition halls of the Gdansk International Fair Co. will play host to almost 450 exhibitors from countries including Belgium, Lithuania, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Poland. Over its 17-year history, AMBERIF has become the largest trade fair to present amber products in the world. Not only the sheer number of exhibitors, but also the diversity of styles, designs and a unique approach to amber, gold, silver and other materials make Amberif a showcase for the latest trends in the jewellery business. As in its previous editions, Amberif will be organised around thematic sectors. In Amber Hall 5 and Amber&Silver Hall 4 you will be able to see necklaces, rings and all other kinds of jewellery in classic and avant-garde designs, with almost 300 exhibitors from Poland and Lithuania presenting their products. Featured on the mezzanine of Amber Hall 5, the Designers’ Gallery always enjoys remarkable interest. The pieces showcased there are the fruit of the imagination of artists and jewellery designers. The Designers’ Gallery is where you can get to see incoming trends, new techniques and ideas used in jewellery-making. The Gallery is well worth visiting to discover the artists’ latest interpretations of the notion of jewellery. Every year, many a visitor is astounded by the designers’ creativity and the diversity of the designs on display. Gold Hall 3 is the main exhibiting venue for gold and silver jewellery, next to jewellery with precious stones such as pearls and diamonds. Jewellery from Polish manufacturers and studios will compete with jewellery designed in Italy and Turkey or imported from Thailand. The Gold Hall will also be the place for diamond distributors from Belgium, Germany and Poland to show their wares. The Gold Hall will feature platinum products and watches as well. The exhibition will be complemented by the Technical Pavilion with a presentation of the latest technologies, machines, tools and materials for jewellery manufacture. Each year, competitions are an important feature of Amberif. As early as in February, we will learn the verdict of the international jury of the Amberif Design Award (ADA) competition, aimed at promoting amber far and wide as a natural jewellery material of unique properties. The ADA’s 13 editions to date had jewellery for their topic. However, in its long tradition of being crafted, which dates back to Neolithic times, to the Amber Routes leading to ancient Rome, and later to the baroque period, when the most spectacular artefacts were made, including works on an architectural scale, the Gold of the North was also used as a material for applied art and personal accessories which were not jewellery. This year, this conceptual competition which calls for a design, or perhaps rather for an interpretation of jewellery, will be held under the tricky motto of “non-jewellery.” Amberif will be home to contests including the Mercurius Gedanensis design competition for the most attractive products at the Fair and the Amber in Handicraft competition which is open to all amber artefact makers. The Fair will also be accompanied by exhibitions of competition entries, works by art college and vocational school students. We will present jewellery by more than 70 artists, entered in a competition for jewellery made of bottle caps organised by the Ambermoda Gallery and the Sophisti.pl web portal and much, much more. Since 1994 Amberif has featured a series of seminars for amber and jewellery experts and lovers. This year, we wish to invite you to the gemmology seminar organised by the SRJ Association of Jewellery Experts in collaboration with the HRD Diamond High Council of Antwerp. The seminar on amber, in turn, will be organised as usual by the International Amber Association in partnership with the Museum of the Earth of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) in Warsaw. Amberif will also feature the debut of the second volume of 2005-2009 seminar papers in book format. The Amber and Fashion Gala has been one of the most important Amberif events for years. This chic evening spectacular is composed of fashion and jewellery shows which have been largely designed especially for the occasion. While at Amberif, it is well worth visiting the palaeontological exhibition prepared by such institutions as the Museum of Amber Inclusions at the University of Gdansk and numerous specialists from Poland and abroad, plus the Amber Laboratory organised by the experts of the International Amber Association with an exhibition of amber imitations and forgeries which can be encountered in the market. The experts at the Amber Laboratory help to appraise the amber jewellery and are watchful against any amber forgeries at Amberif, where they are strictly banned. An especially interesting exhibit will come in a replica of a merchant’s cart from the times of the Roman Empire. The cart will be presented as part of the Quest for Amber project by the Kalisz Museum. Next to the Amber and Fashion Gala, practically every evening of the Fair features Amberif side events. These include an exhibition of jewellery and natural pieces of striped flint by Cezary Łutowicz at the Ambermoda Gallery and the art preview of Group Six at the legendary Club Sfinks. You are welcome to visit Amberif in Gdansk – the World Capital of Amber, to experience its extraordinary beauty and magic. Even today, you can go to our web-site at www.amberif.pl, where you can find Amberif’s up-to-date agenda, photographs of jewellery from selected exhibitors and last year’s competition winners, plus trade visitor registration forms, as Amberif is a trade only event.
