ERTMS Debate

Dear Sir or Madam,

The European Commission has accepted the ERTMS Implementation Masterplan for the European Union, on the basis of the national ERTMS deployment plans, including the one accepted by Poland. The Masterplan defines in detail, for years to 2015 and 2020, railway lines, designed to be equipped with ERTMS, and railway hubs, to which the possibility to reach them under ERTMS supervision is expected. At the same time ERTMS implementation in Poland has begun on the first 330 km of railway lines, the CMK Line (224 km Level 1) and the E30 Line (84 km Level 2), out of over 5000 km of lines designed to be equipped.

In this specific moment, the fully open to public “ERTMS Debate” will be organized during the TRAKO Fair. The debate will show both the new directions of ERTMS implementation, in the light of the European Union legislation changes, as well as the determination of the Polish railway infrastructure manager, in the light of the actual ERTMS implementation. Within the framework of the debate, European Railway Agency (ERA) and the Association of European Rail Industry (UNIFE) statements are also anticipated. ERA is the ERTMS system authority. UNIFE assembles, among others, the manufacturers of this system.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR on 1435/1520mm RAILWAY SYSTEMS BORDER QUESTIONS

The European Railway Agency (ERA) has finished working on the feasibility study on incorporating 1520 mm railways to the European Union legislation. In this context in order to meet the challenges of the Euro-Asian railway transport, it is necessary to recapitulate the actions, which lead to more and more needed convergence of the 1435 and 1520 mm railway systems. The simultaneous progression of liberalisation of the common railway transport market and of new telematic applications building, for supporting advanced logistic services in cargo transport, open from one side: new possibilities inter-branch and intra-branch of competition , and from the other side: new possibilities of cooperation between different means of transport.

The Association for Rail Transport Interoperability and Development (SIRTS), Polish State Railways (PKP), Polish Railway Lines (PKP PLK), the Association of Communication Engineers and Technicians of the Republic of Poland (SITK RP), along with the International TRAKO Fair decided to organize the THIRD International Seminar on ”1435/1520 mm Railway Systems Border Questions”. The Seminar will be held on 13th October 2009 (the day before the TRAKO Fair begins) in Gdańsk. This is the third edition of the Seminar, the first was held on 11-12 October 2005 and the second on 9th October 2007. The Seminars were mentioned in the TRAKO Fair programme.

The Third International Seminar on “1435/1520 mm Railway System Border Questions” will consist of three sessions: the strategic, the operator and the technical session. Introducing the operator session for the first time to the seminar is a sign, that the activities for clearing the 1435/1520 mm Railway Systems Border are bringing their first results.

The participation in the Seminar is chargeable. The participation cost amounts 400 PLN, paid in advance. The registration form and the agenda are available on the SIRTS Association website: www.sirts.eu

We sincerely welcome You to participate in the Seminar and believe that the International Seminar on ”1435/1520 mm Railway Systems Border Questions” will be an important railway event, which will enrol in the railway meeting calendar of an Euro-Asian dimension.
